A Song For Jessica

Allison Deleon always dreamed of a musical career, but when her ten-year old brother was killed in a car accident years ago, everything changed for her and she eventually gave up on her dream.

Now, 28-year old Allison feels life spinning out of control. She’s one step away from getting fired at work and her best friend, Jessica — the only person who has always been there and still encourages her to pursue music — is getting married and will soon be moving across the country. Allison fears she’ll lose her friend forever. When her estranged father resurfaces and files for divorce Allison’s emotionally unstable mother is distraught.

Now Allison has another shot at her dream. She wants to do it, but going for it would mean leaving her mother at a time when she needs her most.

Allison wants to do the right thing, but it’s not that simple.

I just finished reading a fiction novel titled “A Song for Jessica” by Ruby Montalvo. It is a story about love, loss, relationship struggles and choices that we are sometimes forced to make in every day life. Do we do what we perceive is “the right thing to do” for someone else or finally make yourself and your life the priority? I really enjoyed the book and couldn’t wait to find out what the main character, Jessica, was going to do in all the situations she encountered. The book is well written and is thought provoking. It has a good mixture of humor, sadness, drama and even some unexpected surprises with the main character and minor characters as well. The situations and/or problems Jessica faced are “real” problems we can all relate to, have had in in our life, or in the life of someone we know. She is a very relatable character and felt like a good girlfriend by the time I finished the book. I would have liked a little more detail on some of the story lines or to know the outcomes of some of the situations but that is only because I enjoyed reading it so much I didn’t want it to end. I am hoping for a sequel to see what comes next for Jessica and her friends. I highly recommend it!

I met you at the Twig Book Store at the Pearl and a friend of mine from Houston purchased a copy of your book for me as a gift. I just finished reading the book and wanted to let you know I enjoyed the book. The twist and turns were a surprise and helped me to understand Jessica’s decision.
